About Me
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of South Alabama (South). I have been at South since the fall of 2023. From the fall of 2012 to the summer of 2023, I was a full time instructor in the mathematics department at the College of Lake County which is a community college in Grayslake, Illinois. In the Spring of 2018 I received a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. The focus of my doctoral dissertation was various problems in list coloring. In the Spring of 2011 I received an M.S. in the teaching of mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In the Spring of 2010 I received a B.S. in mathematics from UIUC and obtained certification to teach mathematics in Illinois at the high school level. I have a number of research interests in mathematics, and I especially like collaborating with students on research questions. During the 2019-2020 academic year, I received a sabbatical, and I was a Visiting Associate Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology where I focused on improving my ability to supervise undergraduate research projects. Finally, I love being in the classroom and sharing my passion for mathematics with others. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to teach several classes. I have thoroughly enjoyed my teaching experiences, and I hope to have many more in the years to come.
On a more personal note, I enjoy math contests and doing recreational mathematics. I have competed in many mathematics competitions and helped out with several competitions as well. Aside from mathematics and mathematics education, I also enjoy spending time with my family and participating in sports and outdoor activities which include: running, golf, table tennis, basketball, tennis, and Frisbee golf.
My academic family tree can be found here.
From February 2011 to July 2017 my Erdős number was 4: Mudrock- El-Zanati- Billington- Rosa- Erdős. Since August 2017 my Erdős number is 3: Mudrock- Vanden Eyden- Cater- Erdős.
